DESCRIPTION

With its heavily scroll-cut trestle legs and shaped stretcher—this beautiful small table is closely tied to Transylvanian peasant furniture, particularly from the late 19th to early 20th century. These tables were used in homes, often near stoves or beds, and the design evolved for both stability and handcraft decoration, stylized with motifs typical of Transylvanian or Maramureș rural furniture,

The use of wedges (seen on the stretcher peg) is typical of pre-industrial joinery methods.

This type of table was a staple in rural homes—used for eating, writing, or displaying icons. Very similar forms exist in Romanian open-air museums and ethnographic collections.
